Hides water stains on leather.
When using leather products, one thing that can't help but bother you is stains caused by rain or water.
This can be a bit noticeable, especially with colors like camel.
My camel wallet also has numerous rainwater stains on it.
(↑This is my own long wallet that got wet when I was suddenly caught in a heavy rain while getting into my car.)
I'm sure you've all had the experience of your wallet or leather product getting wet in the rain.
As you can see, it often dries to leave a stain.
There is a large, long stain on the bottom of the wallet, which was caused by dropping it in a puddle on a rainy day.
There are also many other small stains and scratches.
I often get asked how to deal with this situation, so I'll try it out.
Moisten the leather with water.
The method we will be using now is not to erase the stain, but to cover it up.
*Please note that this method is only used with a type of vegetable tanned leather called Buttero, so it may not be effective for all types of leather.
Water stains cannot be removed, so wetting the entire item will make the stain less noticeable.
If there are still no severe stains, simply wiping the surface with a damp cloth may improve the condition a little.
Even if you regularly use oil care products, small scratches and stains may become less noticeable if you wet your leather slightly with water.
↓Wet it this much.
When it feels like it has soaked a little, wipe it dry to remove any moisture.
(*Do not rub hard when wiping. This will cause the color to darken in some areas.)
After it dries, applying a care cream will make scratches and other marks less noticeable.
The process up to this point is something we often do on a daily basis.
If you do this repeatedly along with your regular leather care, it will develop a wonderful texture.
Soak the leather in water.
If the above method still bothers you, try the following method, but be prepared for the color to darken overall and the leather to harden .
First, remove all the contents from your wallet and remove as much accumulated dust as possible.
*If any contents remain in the product, the color may transfer to the leather when it is placed in water, so please check carefully.
It completely wets everything.
Fill the items with room temperature water until all of them are submerged, and allow the water to soak in slowly.
(Avoid lukewarm water.)
It depends on the item, but it can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour for the dye to soak in completely.
You may be tempted to press or move the product to speed up the soaking process, but this is strictly prohibited.
When leather gets wet it becomes extremely soft and stretches.
Allow it to penetrate as little as possible without touching it.
If it has soaked into both sides this much, it's OK.
Drain on a towel to absorb excess moisture.
Insert paper inside to remove any moisture that has accumulated inside.
I think kitchen paper would be fine.
Copy paper is not very absorbent, so it's best to avoid it.
Also, use colorless paper as the color of newspapers and flyers may transfer to the leather.
Once most of the moisture has been removed, stand the product upright and dry it in the shade in a well-ventilated area (this is important) .
Also, if you dry it while it is distorted, it will become warped, so turn it over and dry it slowly, straightening out any distortions.
It depends on the weather and the size of the item, so I can't say for sure, but I let this wallet dry for about five days.
Once completely dry, apply cream to care for your skin.
From then on, I increased the frequency of using the cream to once a day for about four days.
Spread the cream all over.
After treatment, it will go back to this state.
It may feel a little stiff at first, but it will become more comfortable over time.
The inside is a little darker where the card regularly touches it, but it will become less noticeable with use.
Before After
Let's line up the images to see the effect.
Before
After
The overall color has become a little darker, but I think that small scratches and stains are much less noticeable.
If you look closely, you can see the long stain on the bottom left, but it's now almost invisible.
I think it's a little scary to put your wallet, card case, etc. in water, but if you have time, please give it a try.
The cream we used this time is our original cream , but you can substitute it with something else.
