The story behind the Caddis shoulder bag

Based on the concept of "Can be used for both fishing and town use",

The pursuit of a "just right" usability for everyone

Shoulder bag "Caddis"

We would like to introduce the story behind its creation.

01

Getting an inspiration from daily life

Hobby-based crafting tips

It all started with my hobby, fly fishing.

The idea for creating Caddis came about when Munekawa's staff were enjoying their hobby of fly fishing on their days off.

When fly fishing, you often need to hold the rod in one hand while taking something out of your bag with the other.

"If there was a bag that made it easier to take things out of with one hand, it would be useful not only for fishing but for everyday use as well."

With these thoughts in mind, the idea for the Caddis shoulder bag was born.

I often get inspiration for my creations from random thoughts that come to mind in my everyday life.

Perhaps this idea was born because he was immersed in his favorite hobby during this time.

02

The Concepts we value

Caddis concept

The concept is a shoulder bag that can be used both for fishing and in town.

The concept that Caddis values is that their bags are suitable for anyone and any occasion .

We wanted to create a bag that would be easy to use in any situation, not just for outdoor activities like fishing, but also for work, personal use, travel, etc.

The idea came from the fisherman's bag style traditionally used in the UK.

This bag is popular in England, where field sports such as fishing and hunting have been popular since ancient times, and one of its charms is its simple yet classic and elegant atmosphere.

By incorporating these elements into the design, we were able to develop the image of a classic bag that is not only functional but can also be used in a variety of situations.

Careful selection of materials for long-term use

The main material, water-repellent canvas, is not only resistant to getting wet, but also develops a texture that becomes more comfortable the more you use it.

The Italian oil leather used for the bag, "Maremma," is a material that ages over time.

After much discussion, we decided on the material so that we could create a bag that would be easy to use and would be loved for a long time .

The side of the bag also features a D-ring, a standard feature on outdoor items.

Brass is used for the D-rings and other metal fittings.

The design emphasizes functionality that makes it convenient for both outdoor and urban use, while maintaining an elegant and classic impression.

03

digging deep into an ease of use

Pursuit of "ease of use"

Don't overlook "slight discomfort" or "little inconvenience"

Caddis, like all our other items, was created through repeated trial and error.

The production staff themselves will try out the completed samples and provide a review.

We gain insights that can only be gained by actually using the product, deepening our understanding of the product and using this knowledge to create even better products.

In some cases, specifications were changed significantly just before completion.

One of these is the design of the back pocket, which was designed to hold larger items such as a laptop.

"The pockets are not deep, so I'm worried about whether it will fit properly."

"It's hard to tell where the back pocket is in the dark."

The production staff noticed this inconvenience while using the sample.

So we came up with the idea of creating a gentle curve at the opening of the back pocket and using leather around the edges.

By edging the pocket with leather, the position of the back pocket is more clearly defined, making it easier to see even in dark places.

We were also able to increase the height of the pocket by curving the opening.

"It's not a defect, but it just feels a little strange."

How many of these points can you notice?

Being able to resolve these issues one by one is a very important element in Munekawa's manufacturing.

Named after Elk Hair Caddis

Hoping to become a "standard"

Origin of the name "Caddis"

The name "Cadiz" may be unfamiliar to some people.

This name comes from the "Elk Hair Caddis", a fly (artificial bait) that is a standard in fly fishing and is popular among fishermen.

There are many loyal users who say, "If I have this fly, I don't need anything else."

We chose this name with the hope that it will become a classic bag that will become familiar to those who use it, like the Elk Hair Caddis, which is loved by many anglers.

I want this bag to become a staple bag that users will say, "If I have this bag, I don't need anything else."

With this in mind, we took the time to create this bag, paying particular attention to every aspect, including the materials, design, and specifications, making it a bag that is suitable for anyone.
