Hello! I'm Takahashi, a member of the production staff.
This may be a bit sudden, but do you know what "floor leather" is?
Although it's a bit of a niche subject, many people who love leather or enjoy leather crafting will be familiar with it.
Simply put, it is leather with the outer layer scraped off .
Leather products basically use the surface of the leather. The original thickness (raw thickness) of leather varies depending on the leather, and the required thickness also changes depending on what you are making (small items or bags).
Split leather is often an unnecessary part that is shaved off when adjusting the thickness, and it is often disposed of by the skiving maker (a company that adjusts the thickness of leather).
However, we feel it would be a waste to throw them away, so at Munekawa we are thinking of various ways to utilize them.
We sometimes use split leather when making product samples, but at Munekawa, we use it in a variety of situations, so we'd like to introduce it to you!
↓It is stored wrapped in floor leather.
This is floor leather. The surface has not been scraped off. (Size: approx. 100 x 120 cm)
↑If it's too big like the image above it's hard to use, so I cut it as shown below ↓ to the size I want to use.
It's colorful and makes me feel a little better.
The most common use is as a writing pad when making things!
It is an essential item to have on your desk when working, as it protects the leather surface from scratches.
Similarly, it can also be used to cut leather!
It's a little hard to see, but below there is a table in front of the cutting machine on which the leather is placed, and the leather laid on top of that is also floor leather.
It doesn't scratch and has a good grip, so it's easy to use.
If the floor leather becomes dirty after using the method above, cut it into small pieces.
Used to remove adhesive from spatulas.
It comes off pretty neatly ♬
Also, on rainy days like today, I use the leather floor as a doormat (shoe mat).

Something like this too...
↓I also made a sleeve cover out of a vinyl sheet (cutting mat). It fits nicely,
In the past, I even made a large cover (approximately 100 x 60 cm) for an easel (a sign in front of a store) (laughs).
We have produced many other items, but we have not yet used them all.
Ultimately, I would like to be able to get to a point where we no longer have unnecessary floor leather.
I will try to improve every day!
